Cayeux sur Mer

40 km from the campsite, Cayeux-sur-Mer is one of these ideal destinations to meet with family or friends and enjoy the simple pleasures of the seaside. In summer, you can walk on the longest snowboard trail in Northern Europe, bathe on the large sandy beaches or pebbles, practice a multitude of very "nature" activities in the heart of the Bay of the Somme!

Cayeux-sur-Mer, there is the sky, the sun and... the beach cabins!

Inseparable from Cayeux, the beach cabins have been part of the resort's décor for ages. Today, more than 400 cabins stand facing the sea, along several kilometres of beaches. We have been coming here with our family since the 1900s to rest between two baths, picnic, share a snack or an aperitif with friends, read books in the shade of the sun or simply store our little beach things. Some are available for rental. Notice to holidaymakers who would like to have their little pied-à-terre just a few steps from the beach during their camping holiday!

What if you went out to meet the seals?

Leaving from the Hourdel, hamlet of Cayeux-sur-Mer, south of the Bay of the Somme, you can follow a naturalist guide and get to know the sea calf seals and grey seals. Here, the largest colony of seals in France can be observed (in 2015,473 calf seals and 151 grey seals were counted). At low tide, they land on the sandbanks at the tip of the Hourdel to catch the sun and let themselves be observed by binoculars! Don't forget your camera if you want to take beautiful pictures of the stars of the Bay of the Somme!

  • Visit the village of Le Hourdel and its small fishing port when the "sauterelliers" bring their grey shrimp catch back to shore!
  • Discover the Marais du Hâble d' Ault, a refuge for many migratory birds, renowned for its rich wildlife and flora.
